VIDEOTAPE

I have done a proper one of these in ages.

Doesn't matter.

I just watched the excellent video for Vampire Weekend's song, A-Punk, directed by Garth Jennings.

It's simple, and brilliant, and suits the song perfectly. Watch it again. It's worth it just to see the drummers running backward and forwards like that.

It got me thinking about my favourite music videos... sigh. You probably saw that one coming, didn't you? I know it's a flimsy premise for a blog, and one that's been done to death, but I don't care, really.

Here are my favourites, in no particular order:
(First one has a warning, both for mildly spooky Thom Yorke and some car violence.)

UNKLE and Thom Yorke - Rabbit in Your Headlights (Directed by Jonathon Glazer)

(Second one has a warning for mild logos.)

Justice - DVNO (Directed by So Me)

(Third has a warning for martial arts wankery.)

Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Directed by Joseph Khan)

(Warning: Men flipping out.)

At the Drive-in - One Armed Scissor (Directed by... At the Drive-in, I spose.)
No warnings required for the next two...

Battles - Atlas (Directed by someone who's clever)

Battles - Tonto (Directed by UVA - United Visual Artists.)

(Warning: Amazingly Cool.)

Beastie Boys - Sabotage

(Warning, Bikes!!!)

Bat for Lashes - What's a Girl to Do

Beck - Sexx Laws

Daft Punk - Robot Rock

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream

MGMT - Time to Pretend

Arcade Fire - My Body is a Cage

Queens of the Stone Age - 3's & 7's

Radiohead - House of Cards

Bloc Party - Banquet

LAST ONE!
The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist

Remember this stuff? Yeah, me too... sorry for bringing it all up.

MixwitMixwit make a mixtapeMixwit mixtapes

Mixwit is officially my favourite thing on the internet.

If you couldn't tell already, it allows you to create mix-tapes that can be shared over the net, with out any illegal file sharing, nasty blah blah blah, and most importantly, no having to actually record the sort of crap that appears on this bad boy onto tapes that i can't find.

I'd be interested to know if any of you reader(s) remember these songs. I certainly remembered "How Bizarre". Remember? It goes "every time I"-- okay, just listen to it yourself.

I'm taking suggestions for Volume Two right now.

Go for it!

Beck's Modern Guilt is Coming Soon

July 7 or 8, to be precise.

Here is the album artwork, which I love:

And here is the tracklist:

01 Orphans
02 Gamma Ray
03 Chemtrails
04 Modern Guilt
05 Youthless
06 Walls (ft. Cat Power)
07 Replica
08 Soul of a Man
09 Profanity Prayers
10 Volcano

It'll last for about half an hour, which is a bit sad, but hey- some awesome Beck is better than no Beck at all.

I'll let you know how great it is when I get it.

For now, we wait. Impatiently.

Modern Guilt

Any day now....

Here's Beck playing "Modern Guilt" from the forever forthcoming new Album of the same name at some club somewhere.

God, it's awesome.
